If you attended Christmas at Luther this past December or heard a broadcast, you heard the familiar strains of “Gabriel’s Oboe” performed by Aurora and faculty member Heather Armstrong. This beautiful tune, which is known throughout the world and in various arrangements and guises, seems to transcend time and place.

A Student's Take on the Journey and Inspiration of Christmas at Luther

Nordic Choir member, Sam Jones, tells us about the effects Christmas at Luther has had on him and many others-- and about his feelings towards the wintery tundra of Decorah, Iowa.

"We don’t have palm trees or movie stars in Decorah, and the winters are a force to be reckoned with, but we do have this. We have Christmas at Luther."

As I reflected on today’s symphony fall concert and thought about what I wanted to write, it seemed obvious to me what I should talk about. As a transfer student, I have experienced two other music school environments previous to entering the doors of Jenson. I came to Luther second semester of my sophomore year, and I am relieved that I made that choice.

Dr. Kutz on Mozart’s Divertimento for String Trio

For the ‘spotlight on the faculty’ blog, I was asked what I was most looking forward to in the coming year, and if there was a specific piece I was especially looking forward to performing. My responses were, respectively, the combination of teaching my students and performing with my colleagues, and, Mozart’s Divertimento for String Trio with my faculty colleagues.
