The second annual Norse Awards, sponsored by the Luther College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, will be held Sunday, March 16 in the Center for Faith and Life on the campus of Luther College. The Luther campus community and public are encouraged to attend. As well, the Norse Awards will be video streamed.
A Blue Carpet Social will kick-off the evening starting at 3:30 p.m., followed by the Norse Awards Ceremony at 4 p.m.
This year’s keynote speaker is Marney Olson '99, sister of the late Johanna Olson '01, who was a seven-time all-American during her cross country and track career at Luther.
The Norse Awards will recognize and honor Luther athletes for their accomplishments during the 2013 calendar year. The categories include Perseverance Award, Freshman of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year, Male Athlete of the Year, Record Breaking Performance of the Year, Comeback Play of the Year, Best Winning Moment, and Play of the Year. Administrators, staff and head coaches of the Luther College athletic program will present the nominees and award winners.
Luther College, a four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, is located in Decorah, Iowa. The Norse compete in 10 men's and nine women's intercollegiate sports.
As a member of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference since 1922, the Luther men have won 159 conference championships. In 1982, the IIAC expanded its championship sponsorship to include women’s sports. During this time frame, the Luther women have won 67 championships. Combined, the Norse have won an unmatched 226 IIAC titles.
