DECORAH, Iowa—The sold-out concert for the hip-hop group Macklemore & Ryan Lewis scheduled for Tuesday, April 2, has been postponed due to illness. The Luther College Student Activities Council Concerts Committee, which is sponsoring the show, will announce a new
Macklemore concert date in the fall of 2013 as soon as possible. Those who purchased tickets through the Luther College Box Office will automatically receive a refund. Ticket purchasers who have not received a refund within two weeks should contact the Box Office at (563) 387-1357.
National recording artist Kelley James, scheduled to open for Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, will perform as scheduled Tuesday at the Luther College Regents Center. No tickets will be necessary. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Ben Haggerty, known as Macklemore, postponed the Tuesday show because of problems with his vocal cords.
In a letter to the Luther College community, he wrote:
"A couple of years ago, I was diagnosed with nodules on my vocal cords. It comes from performing, not resting, and overexertion of the voice. I work very hard to take care of my voice, and with care, most of the time I'm fine and healthy. But from time to time, it becomes a problem. This is one of those bad times. The only temporary solution is to take steroids, which are horrible for you and only act as a Band-Aid, anyway. I had to take them a couple weeks ago, and taking them this soon after isn't a viable option. Basically, I need to rest my voice for a few days or I'll run the risk of causing permanent damage. After a few days of rest, I'll be able to resume my schedule and get back to doing what I love the most.
"I'm writing to address all the fans, students and faculty who have been looking forward to and are excited about the concert. I absolutely hate the idea of canceling this show, or any show. I know of all the hours of hard work that have gone into creating the show."
