Luther College will celebrate Commencement Sunday, May 20 at 10 a.m. in the Carlson Stadium. Five hundred sixty-seven graduates of the Luther class of 2012 will receive the bachelor of arts degree.
Tickets are required to attend the ceremony.
Commencement speaker is Hans Brattskar, Luther class of 1979. He currently serves as Norway's director general and special envoy for international climate change.
Luther Commencement will include the presentation of the Jenson medal, honoring an outstanding member of the class of 2012. Selected by ballot of classmates, the Jenson Medal recipient demonstrates the ideas of the college through service to students and the community.
The 2012 recipient of the Luther Young Alumni Award will also be announced at the May 20 ceremony. The award is presented to a Luther graduate who has demonstrated achievement, leadership, service, character and ethic that exemplify the college mission.
Guests without tickets will find closed-circuit television viewing in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall, Helen Farwell Lounge in Farwell Hall, and Marty's CyberCafé in the Dahl Centennial Union.
Luther Commencement weekend events begin Friday, May 18 with the Luther Nordic Choir and Jazz Orchestra concert at 8 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall. The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission.
Saturday events include the nursing pinning ceremony for nursing majors of the class of 2012, held in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Music Hall at 9:30 a.m., the social work program celebration from 10 a.m.-noon in the Farwell Hall Lounge, and the senior athlete recognition ceremony at 10:30 a.m. in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall.
Luther will host an all-college picnic on the Preus Library Lawn from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Attendees should bring a blanket to sit on and dress comfortably. Rain location will be the Dahl Centennial Union Dining Hall. Cost of the picnic is $8 per person.
The Saturday music showcase is at 1:30 p.m. in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. The performance by the Luther Symphony Orchestra and Concert Band is open to the public with no change for admission.
Baccalaureate is Saturday at 8 p.m. in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. Guests are to be seated by 7:45 p.m. Baccalaureate is a time for seniors and their families to gather with the Luther community to celebrate and give thanks for the students' years at Luther. Audio recordings of the service are available upon request from the Office of College Ministries (http://ministry.luther.edu). There will be a freewill offering designated to local and global charities in honor of the senior class.
The Commencement ceremony is Sunday at 10 a.m. in Carlson Stadium. Guests with tickets should be seated by 9:45 a.m.

A Commencement brunch will be held following the ceremony from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Dahl Centennial Union Dining Hall. No reservations are required. Cost is $8 per person.
