Luther College President Richard Torgerson has announced the appointment of Diane L. (Baum) Thormodsgard of Plymouth, Minn., to the Luther Board of Regents. Thormodsgard, retired vice chairman of Wealth Management and Securities Services for U.S. Bank, will join the college's governing board at its October meeting.
Thormodsgard served on the strategic planning committee that President Torgerson appointed shortly after he arrived at Luther College. "We are pleased that Diane is now joining the board," said Torgerson. "In addition to her financial expertise, she has a clear vision for Luther's mission and its goals, being deeply committed to the value of a liberal arts education. She will be a valuable leader for the Luther community."
A native of Sac City, Iowa, Thormodsgard holds the bachelor of arts degree in mathematics, economics and accounting from Luther College and the master of business administration degree from the University of Minnesota.
Thormodsgard has been honored five times by U.S. Banker magazine in its prestigious annual profile of the "Most Powerful Women in Banking." In 2007 she received the Luther College Distinguished Service Award.
Thormodsgard is a member of the Minnesota Society and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She serves on the boards of the St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Minneapolis Foundation, Minnesota Church Foundation and Central Corridor Partnership. She is also on the National Council for Graywolf Press.
She is an active member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley, Minn., where she has been a member of the congregation's church council and executive committee and has been involved with the Calvary Mission Endowment Fund and the childcare center. She has also served as treasurer, a Sunday school teacher and helped with other youth activities.
Thormodsgard and her husband, Gaylord E. Thormodsgard, are the parents of two children, Dr. Timothy Thormodsgard of South Portland, Maine, and Amy Thormodsgard Floyd of New York, N.Y.
