Book Shop to host book signing with Eboo Patel Sept. 2

The Luther College Book Shop will host a book signing session with Eboo Patel, founder and executive director of the Interfaith Youth Core of Chicago, Wednesday, Sept. 2, from 8:15-9 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life lobby on the Luther campus.

The book signing will follow Patel’s question-and-answer session at 7 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall. Both events are open to the public with no charge for admission.

Patel’s book, “Acts of Faith: The Story of an American Muslim, the Struggle for the Soul of a Generation,” will be on sale in the lobby during the book signing. Copies are also available in the Luther Book Shop.

Born in Mumbai, India, Patel is a Muslim-American who attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he received his bachelor’s degree. He went on to Oxford University where he received his doctoral degree in the sociology of religion, studying as a Rhodes Scholar.

He is an Ashoka fellow and was recently appointed by President Barack Obama to the Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. In addition, he writes “The Faith Divide,” a featured blog for the Washington Post, and has also written for the Chicago Tribune and the Sunday Times.
