    The Campus

    December 19, 2012

“It’s boring, it’s too quiet, all my friends are gone, I am going home, I am visiting a family friend etc.”, are the common phrases you hear from most students during breaks. People like me got to stay on campus and see what Luther College looks like without most students.  Read more...

    Still Green

    December 9, 2012

The wind has striped the trees their wonderful colored leaves. Usually, after the trees are leafless, the snow covers them and ice forms in some branches making them shinny. However, up until today, December 7, 2012, we have not experienced snow.  Read more...

    The Community

    December 2, 2012

After my Stats class I went to my room to relax for a couple of minutes. I logged in on facebook and saw that one of my high school friends was online. I really wanted to talk to him so I asked him if we can skype and he said yes. I was excited and I opened my skype account very fast and called him, Njabulo Mndzebele. I call him Mndzebele.  Read more...

Sleep, Eat, Movies was the Order of the Day

    November 26, 2012

I tried my best to be a good student and do homework after Thanksgiving during the break but the turkey was already in my blood. You see, before the Thanksgiving I was resting; I did not want to do homework or do anything related to books. All I wanted was to lean back and relax; sleep, watch movies and eat. I told myself that I will start thinking about schoolwork after I have eaten some turkey.  Read more...

    1 Hour Visit to India

    November 18, 2012

After a hectic week, ISAA brought India in Marty’s. ISAA, International Students Association and Allies, has started a tradition of sharing different cultures with the campus called Country Presentations. Last year we brought South Africa to Marty’s and we got to meet South Africans and hear about the 11 different languages spoken there. As the tradition continued, this year we travelled to Asia to learn about India.  Read more...

    Exciting Phone call

    November 12, 2012

“You collect all you can my friend” is part of the email from Glen that made my life, my Tuesday better. For weeks we had been struggling on how we were going to ship shoes weighing over 100 pounds. All we were told was that it was going to be very expensive to pay for the shipment and we had to start raising funds for shipment. We already had the shoes collected and we really wanted them to get to those who need them in Swaziland. We only had $250 and we knew that this amount of money was not enough to ship the amount of shoes we had collected.  Read more...

    Memorable Side Ache

    November 3, 2012

Friday 11/2/2012, was the last race for xc JV folks. It was a race where I have planned to run 8km under 27 minute. I wanted to pr and run a negative split. I knew I could do it especially because of the support of my teammates; pushing each other beyond one’s limits is what we do best at LCXC.  Read more...

    Still Standing

    October 28, 2012

I have taken weeks, a week off, days and a day off. I have also taken a day easy. I have spent more time in the trainer’s room than I have spent running. However, I am still standing. The support I get from the Luther Cross Country Team (LCXC) is so great words cannot describe it. The only way one can understand it is by being part of the team. LCXC is more than a team; LCXC is my family. I have 41 brothers (Oak and Sky North) 31 sisters. I have two fathers, Steve and Eric, and one mother, Yarrow.  Read more...

    Tough Decision

    October 21, 2012

I have been confused for a while about the next step after college. All I know is that I want to be in finance and I love statistics. It is either I go to grad school or work. The career fair on the 11th of October 2012 answered most of the questions I had about finding a job after college. However, I had tones of questions needed to be answered about grad school. To the rescue, came the diversity center with solutions free of charge. The diversity center took a group of about 17 multicultural and international students to Iowa State University (ISU) in Ames. My job was to go to the statistics department and get answers to all my questions. It was like bringing an empty stomach to a buffet to be filled by all the good food.       Read more...

    I am in a Suit

    October 14, 2012

On Thursday, October 11, the Career Center hosted a career fair. It was like a buffer of knowledge about available careers in the work place. The only thing I had to bring was my happy yet professional serious face and of course my resume. Well, the first thing I can say about the experience is that I never knew that talking could be so tiring. I now I admire my friends who talks so much because, as I found out, talking requires a lot of energy. I also admire the representatives of different companies who were part of this big event and were interested in guiding us to a brighter future with their company and giving us knowledge about the work environment.  Read more...

    School Boy

    October 6, 2012

On the 31st of October,  we, the International Student Association and Allies, brought the ramp at Regents. We organized a fashion show which was aimed at taking Kids back to school. Our plan was to collect shoes, pads and money donations during the show which will be shipped to Swaziland (my Home country) to help those who need them.   Read more...

    Fall

    September 28, 2012

The sky is blue; the trees are colorful as they gear for winter. The grass is still green: it is a beautiful day at Luther College. I have never appreciated the weather this much. I simply go through my days without looking at my surroundings. I guess spending two consecutive winters at Luther College makes one appreciate nature because soon things will change from being colorful to white. Let me not say much about winter: it makes me shiver.  Read more...
