Luther invites families to 'Christmas in the Union' Dec. 5

Santa will make an early stop in Decorah as Luther College celebrates "Christmas in the Union" 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 5, in the lobby of the Dahl Centennial Union.           

The family-oriented event is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Activities include cookie decorating, crafts, a holiday movie and music. There will be the opportunity for pictures with Santa by the fireplace in the Union lobby from 5-6:30 p.m. Hot chocolate and cider will be served.The Book Shop will also host a day full of Christmas activities from 8:45 a.m.- 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5.  Throughout the day they will be serving popcorn and showing Christmas movies. Storewide discounts will be offered and a drawing will be held for a special prize. Visitors to the Luther Book Shop can also sign Santa's Naughty or Nice lists.

Entries from the Luther faculty and staff "Ugliest Christmas Decoration" contest will be on display for voting with the winner announced at 5:05 p.m.

The third annual "Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest" will take place at 5:45 p.m. with Luther students modeling their best ugly sweaters. The ugly sweater procession will begin in the lobby of the Union and end in the Luther Book Shop where finalists will be announced and judges will select the winners. . Photos of students in their ugly sweaters will be on display for voting from 8:45 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.

Luther Dining Services will conclude the day of Christmas festivities by serving a holiday dinner of ham, turkey and all the fixings in the Luther cafeteria from 5-7:30 p.m. Price is $8.75 for adults, $4.45 for children ages 5-10, no charge for children under five years old.

All of the events for this year's celebration are sponsored by the Luther Book Shop, Student Activities Council, Dining Services and PALS.
