Sustainablity program offers canoe outings

Oct. 8, 2010

Luther College Sustainability, in partnership with Luther's Backyard Wilderness Pursuits program, is coordinating twice-weekly canoe outings on the Upper Iowa River for all Luther students.

There is no charge for the canoe outing.

"We want to introduce students to the wonderful natural resources surrounding Decorah," said Dan Bellrichard, Luther sustainability coordinator.

The 1.5-hour float takes paddlers along the scenic Upper Iowa River. The trip begins at the bridge at the junction of Pole Line Road and Bluffton Road and ends at Luther College.

An experienced work-study student will accompany each group of canoers, allowing both experienced paddlers and those new to the sport to take advantage of the new canoe outings.

Advanced sign-up is required, and it is recommended that groups sign up for outings three to seven days in advance.

Canoe outings will continue as long as the weather permits.
