Relient K played for the first time in December 1997 when Thiessen and Hoopes were still in high school and practicing in Hoopes's Plymouth Reliant K, the inspiration for the band's name.
The group recorded its first demo the following year with producer Mark Lee Townsend. Throughout the next 10 years, Relient K has released five full-length albums, five EPs, a Christmas collection and a long list of hit singles.
Three of the five albums have been certified gold, and the groups have received a Grammy nomination and two Dove awards.
Relient K has performed on the "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and numerous other national television shows.
The Los Angeles Times praised Relient K for "its smart blend of punk pop and power pop, weaving together influences as diverse as the Beach Boys, Blink-182 and Fountains of Wayne."
The Luther performance will be Relient K's first performance after returning to the U.S. following a seven-concert tour of New Zealand and Australia.
Angel Taylor will open for Relient K at the Oct. 29 concert.
An up-and-coming talent, Taylor entered the music scene in 2009 with the release of her debut album "Love Travels," featuring songs such as "Like You Do" and "Chai Tea Latte."
The Southern California native began her music career in an attempt to record a few songs as Christmas presents for her friends and family. One email and an impromptu audition later, she signed with producer Mikal Blue, who has worked with performers such as Colbie Caillat and Brendan James.
Soon after, Taylor signed with Aware/Columbia Records, the record label representing such artists as John Mayer, Beyoncé, Billy Joel and numerous other performers.
