President Torgerson names David M. Meyer to board of regents

June 26, 2009

President Richard Torgerson has announced the appointment of David M. Meyer of Brookings, S.D. to the Luther College Board of Regents. Meyer, orthodontist and owner of Meyer Orthodontics in Brookings and a clinical instructor at the University of Nebraska School of Dentistry, will join the college's governing board at its October meeting.

"Luther is fortunate to have David join the Board of Regents," said President Torgerson. "He is a graduate of a Lutheran college and has a deep and abiding commitment to the type of education Luther offers. He brings the perspective of a parent of two graduates and a current student to the work of the board. This is invaluable."

A native of Tyndall, S.D., Meyer is an alumnus of Augustana College, Sioux Falls, S.D. He holds the master of science degree and certificate of orthodontics from the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minn., and the doctor of dental surgery degree from the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry.

Meyer was named a Fellow of the International College of Dentistry in 2007 and has received numerous other professional and community service honors and awards. He is the author of several articles and monographs published in professional journals.

He is an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Brookings and serves as the radio announcer for the churchs broadcasting program.

Meyer and his wife, Patricia Johnson Meyer, are members of the Luther College Parents Council. They have four children: Andrea Meyer Schmidt of Denton, Texas; Scott Meyer, a 2005 graduate of Luther; John Meyer a 2008 graduate of Luther; and Paul Meyer, a current Luther student.
