Ashley Heffernen named Fulbright English Teaching Assistant

The Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board has selected Ashley Heffernen, Luther College class of 2014, to receive a Fulbright award for the 2015-16 academic year.

The highly competitive Fulbright foreign scholarship award provides funds for a year's educational experience abroad, including travel, health insurance and a monthly stipend to cover living expenses.

Timothy Knepper to speak on teaching philosophy of religion at a college of the church

A majority of the content in philosophy of religion textbooks focuses on the nature, proof and problems with evil concerning a theistic God. Timothy Knepper, associate professor of religion at Drake University, will argue that philosophy of religion should not continue to be taught this way, given the great diversity of realities and religious paths. He will share ways he has used at Drake University to move beyond the old ways of teaching a theistic philosophy of religion.

Area women of all ages will have an opportunity to learn more about financial management, retirement and estate planning, and charitable giving at the 11th annual Women, Faith and Finance seminar on Friday, April 10.

Hosted by Luther College, the one-day educational seminar will be presented 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hotel Winneshiek in Decorah. The program is open to the public and coincides with Decorah's Women's Weekend Out.
