'Prismatic Vernacular'

Chicago artist James Jankowiak brings his dynamic abstract paintings to Luther College in "Prismatic Vernacular," an exhibition of works that focus on the role of color and familiar form as a means of communication in our day-to-day environment. The exhibit is on display Feb. 15-March 20 in the Kristin Wigley-Fleming Gallery of Luther's Center for the Arts, with an opening reception at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, in the same location. The gallery and reception are open to the public with no charge for admission.

'Hateful Things'

From Aunt Jemima advertisements to the board game Ghettopoly, American popular culture is replete with racist images. "Hateful Things," a 39-piece traveling exhibition of items of material culture from the late 19th century to the present that embody the effects of the Jim Crow legacy, is on display from Feb. 12 to March 2 in the Center for Faith and Life on the Luther College campus.

Luther College presents J-term opera scenes performance Jan. 30

Twenty-three Luther College first-year students were selected to participate in the 2018 Opera Scenes Performances course, culminating in a 7 p.m. performance Tuesday, Jan. 30, in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music's Noble Recital Hall. The students are performing scenes from "The Marriage of Figaro," "Don Giovanni," "The Magic Flute," "The Elixir of Love," "The Old Maid and the Thief," "Trouble in Tahiti," "Susannah," "Bastien and Bastienne" and some pieces from contemporary musical theater repertoire.

Luther College announces fall 2017 Dean's List

Luther College's fall 2017 Dean's List includes 737 students; 142 first-years, 142 sophomores, 184 juniors and 269 seniors. To be named to the Dean's List, a student must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale and must complete at least 12 credit hours with 10 hours of conventional grades (A, B, C, D).
