Luther College café introduces new coffee roasted locally in small batches

A new, locally roasted coffee joins the menu this week at Sunnyside Café in Luther College's Center for the Arts. K'uun single origin coffee, roasted by Bean Masters Inc. of Calmar, Iowa, replaces Starbucks coffee at Sunnyside. Fernando and Barbara Vaquero own and operate Bean Masters, roasting coffee beans to-order in small batches.

Luther College alumna Lauren Griffin selected for 2012-13 Fulbright Award

Luther College alumna Lauren Griffin has been awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Program scholarship to Montenegro for the 2012-13 academic year. Griffin, a 2012 Luther graduate from Plymouth, Minn., is the daughter of Phil and Ellen Griffin of Plymouth. She was awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship.

Marjorie Opuni-Akuamoa to present Luther Opening Convocation Lecture

Marjorie Opuni-Akuamoa, Luther College class of 1992 and senior advisor of Evidence, Strategy and Results at the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), will present the college's 2012 Opening Convocation Lecture Thursday, Aug. 30. Opuni-Akuamoa will discuss how her Luther education is helping her in her work with UNAIDS to overcome global healthcare inequities in the treatment of AIDS patients.

Kent Finanger to receive Spirit of Luther Award

Luther College President Richard Torgerson will present the college's Spirit of Luther Award to longtime Luther coach and professor Kent Finanger at the school's opening convocation Thursday, Aug. 30 at 9:40 a.m. in the Center for Faith and Life. The service is open to the public with no charge for admission. Finanger, a 1954 Luther graduate, is being honored for his commitment to, love of and support for Luther College and the Decorah community.

U.S. Energy Department launches "Clean Energy in Our Community" video series

Today, the U.S. Energy Department launched the "Clean Energy in Our Community" video series, which will feature small communities throughout the country that are striving to become more sustainable, are investing in the green economy, and are bringing the benefits of clean energy to local residents and workers.  The Energy Department kicked off the series with a video from Luther College that highlights how Decorah, Iowa is benefiting from the projects undertaken by the college to reduce their energy consumption and deploy clean, renewable energy projects campus-wide.
