Luther received its stiffest test of the week, but held on for a 5-4 win against Elmhurst on the third day of competition during it annual spring trip to Orlando, Fla.  The Norse are currently No. 13 in the Central Region with Elmhurst right behind at No. 14.  Doubles proved to be pivotal, as Luther won two of the three spots and improved to 12-3 overall while maintaining a perfect 4-0 mark on the trip.

Tyler Zinnecker and Aaron Gendron raced out to a double break advantage at No. 3 and beat Kevin Noble and Jim White (8-4) to put Luther on the board first.  After Elmhurst prevailed (9-7) at No. 2 with a service break in the final game, the attention turned to No. 1 where the two teams battled back and forth into a deciding tie-breaker.  Scott Sundstrom and Ramesh Karki played superbly in the tie-breaker, winning (9-8 (4)) over Alex Harbert and Will Jung to give the Norse a 2-1 lead.

Elmhurst tied the match at 2-2 with a straight set win at No. 3, but Quinn Foley rallied from a one set deficit and then cruised in the third set of a (4-6, 6-4, 6-0) win against Justin Guenther at No. 6 to put Luther back in front, 3-2.  Sundstrom played another three set match, rallying after losing the first set and then again after going down 0-3 in the third set, holding on for a (1-6, 6-2, 6-3) win against Harbert at No. 1.  Noble defeated Torstein Jystad (7-6 (5), 6-4) to keep Elmhurst in the match, but Karki was clutch once again, winning (6-2, 2-6, 6-2) against Jung at No. 2 to clinch the match.  Elmhurst won the final match on the court when Luke Tanaka beat Matt Bellio (6-0, 1-6, 6-2) at No. 4.
