A young Covent Garden flower girl with a lower class accent decides to take lessons to speak like a lady so she can work in a flower shop. Colonel Pickering bets Professor Higgins that it cannot be accomplished, and Higgins takes up the challenge. Lerner and Loewe’s retelling of George Bernard Shaw’s play, Pygmalion, has become one of the classics of American musical theatre.
