Get involved with sustainability at Luther College through a work-study position. The Center for Sustainable Communities hires students into many different positions to help with sustainability initiatives across campus.

Work study positions:

  • Garden Crew - Student gardeners are responsible for implementing food safety practices, assisting with management of community gardens and growing food for the college cafeteria. (Job Description)
  • Recycling and Composting Crew - Student recyclers are responsible for completing work related to campus recycling, composting, confidential document transportation, plastic film collection and handling other alternative waste streams as needed. (Job Description)
  • Sustainable Transportation Educator - Responsible for improving access to low-carbon transportation options through strategic planning and innovative outreach and education. (Job Description)
  • Energy Educator - Responsible for raising awareness about energy consumption on Luther’s campus by implementing innovative educational programs through Luther’s Center for Sustainable Communities. (Job Description)
  • Zero Waste Educator - Responsible for evaluating the existing waste stream on campus and implementing new and innovative solutions to help Luther achieve the goal of a zero-waste campus. (Job Description)
  • Marketing and Communications Coordinator - Responsible for assisting with marketing and communications efforts to promote sustainability events, programs and services offered on campus and in the community. (Job Description)
  • Shopping Shuttle Driver - Responsible for safely transporting students from campus to downtown destinations and out to Walmart 2-3 times/month, as stated on the schedule. (Job Description)
  • Cafeteria to Community Coordinator - Student coordinators work in close collaboration with dining services staff to package food into quart sized containers that will be labeled and delivered to the First Lutheran Church Food Pantry twice weekly. (Job Description)
