Get involved with sustainability at Luther College through a work-study position. The Center for Sustainable Communities hires students into many different positions to help with sustainability initiatives across campus.

Work study positions:

  • Student Gardner - Student gardeners are responsible for implementing food safety practices, assisting with management of community gardens and growing food for the college cafeteria. (Job Description)
  • Sustainability Educator - Students will use and develop skills, such as marketing and communications, data collection, event planning and coordination, program facilitation, and peer-teaching. They will lead sustainability events, give tours, prepare newsletters, develop campus-wide activities and educational events of their own design throughout the year. (Job Description)
  • Green Churches Coordinator - The Coordinator gathers information about successful and emerging practices of recycling, water conservation, energy efficiency, land restoration, environmental justice, climate change. These are shared with member churches and ELCA institutions of higher education to help these institutions live out their faith through sustainable practices. (Job Description)
  • Cafeteria to Community Assistant - Assistants work in close collaboration with dining services staff to repackage unused food from the Luther cafeteria and share it with community food pantries to be distributed to those in need. (Job Description)
