Description: Washington County Department of Public Health and Environment is seeking a
qualified individual to work with our Environmental Protection Team. This is an exciting
position that will give the candidate great environmental protection experience and learning
opportunities. The position will work primarily on an important records inventory and
groundwater risk assessment project. The position will also provide support and have
opportunities to work in other environmental programs. The work schedule will be 40 hours
per week Monday- Friday, with occasional weekend and evening work.


Primary duties of the position:

 Data collection and management related to wastewater treatment systems and permit

records, including:

o Working with local municipal offices and officials to obtain historic records and

record information for county purposes
o File review, scanning and uploading into county data systems
 Assist project manager with data collection, coordination, and other activities related to
a groundwater risk assessment study
 Support to other environmental protection programs such as solid and hazardous waste,
including: Accompany staff on inspections, field work, surveillance, and public
 Shadowing other environmental health program personnel such as groundwater
protection, food establishment, public pool, hazardous waste inspectors, and
 Attending public meetings, education presentations, and staffing information booths as needed.

Location: This employee will work primarily from the Washington County Government Center
in Stillwater, Minnesota.

Salary / Dates: Salary is $14.50/hour plus mileage and expenses. This is a twelve week
position. Approximate dates are late May/June – August 2018. Employment start and end
dates are flexible.


 Candidate will possess, or be actively pursuing, a bachelor’s degree in environmental
science, environmental health, biological science, soil science, natural resources,
geology, geographic information systems, public health, or other related field.
Candidates must have completed at least two years (Jr. or Sr. standing or equivalent
semester hours) of study.
 Candidates must be interested in environmental science and/or public health; be able to
work independently; have basic skills with using spreadsheets, numeric and analytical
data; have a familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and have strong
verbal and written communication skills.
 Must have own means of reliable transportation for business purposes,
 A valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
 Be subject to and pass a criminal background check
