Seed Savers Work Study

There are many off-campus internships and employment opportunities available to students with sustainability experience. See the following list of links for off-campus work, volunteer positions, internships, and post-graduation opportunities.

Seed Savers is looking to hire first and second year Luther students for a variety of positions at Seed Savers Heritage Farm.

  • Seed Lab (1-2 students): If you are interested in working with thousands of seeds this may be for you. Students will have the opportunity to work in the seed lab performing germination tests, conducting seed moisture content tests, inventorying seed samples, and packaging seeds. Additional duties may include sowing seeds, pollinating plants, planting transplants, and light gardening. A background in biology would be helpful, but not required.
  • Seed Histories (1 student): Help us uncover the stories behind the varieties in our collection of over 20,000 heirloom and historic garden crops. Work with our seed historians to research historic seed catalogs, dusty old books, hand written letters, and organizational documents as we track the stewardship of varieties in our collection. A background in history, museum studies, or English would be helpful, but not required.

Both roles must have reliable transportation for these campus work study opportunities. Interested students who can commit to 8-10 hours per week should send a resume and 1-2 references to Phil Kauth at Seed Savers Exchange.  More info.

Contact Missy Flack to see if you are eligible to work off campus.
