Community Garden Associate

DUTIES

Community Garden Associate will coordinate and maintain community garden referrals for clients who have come to United States as refugees. CGA will manage LSI's community garden waitlist and work closely with the City of Des Moines and other private community gardens to coordinate plot assignments and garden orientations. CGA will engage with local land owners interested in starting community gardens in areas where many refugee families are living and offer general technical assistance and referrals for gardeners from LSI wait list. CGA will manage infrastructure updates and enhancements at gardens that LSI helps operate.  CGA will also work closely with bilingual interpreters on staff to ensure appropriate communication with clients at garden locations.

Speaking a language of the clients in the program will be considered an asset (Nepali, Kirundi, Swahili, a Chin language, or Burmese).

QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED is preferred.  Ideal candidates will have 1 year of experience in gardening or farming required. Experience with community gardening and linguistic appropriate skills to meet the needs of the clients are desired but not required. 

This position requires a valid driver's license, auto insurance, a good driving record and the ability to pass an extensive background check including checks of the Dependent Adult and Child Abuse registries, Sex Offender registry and a criminal history check.
