Sustainable Foods Internship

Work Expectations:  40 hrs/wk
Pay Rate:  $7.25 per hour

The Sustainability Office seeks one student to work on projects and events related to sustainable foods projects throughout the summer. 

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Telling the story of local food initiatives through posters, web content, campus televisions and potentially video
  • Compiling weekly newsletters for CSA participants
  • Documenting food events through photo and maintaining flickr albums
  • Assisting with food education events
  • Assisting with community outreach projects
  • Creating edible landscape maps
  • Visiting local farms to gather information for website
  • Compiling monthly sustainability e-newsletters
  • Assisting with communications and marketing for the Winneshiek County Farmer's Market
  • Entering purchasing data into the Real Food Challenge calculator
  • Coordinating all logistics related to food education events offered throughout the summer (Note: Events include cooking classes, gardening classes, farm tours, work days, book discussions, etc)
    • Monitoring registration
    • Sending out reminder emails
    • Coordinating with instructor host for any given event
    • Scheduling student staffing for events with the other sustainable foods intern
    • Being present at the majority of food education events
    • Driving 12 passenger vans to off-campus events
    • Purchasing materials and food
    • Maintaining the website and updating registration form as events fill
    • Sending our post-event surveys to participants
    • Tracking faculty/staff participation in events
  • Entering purchasing data into the Real Food Challenge calculator


  • Enrollment at Luther College
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Strong interest in sustainable food systems
