Center for Sustainable Communities hosts Luther alumnus Chuck Stark

After backpacking, rock-climbing, and kayaking his way around the U.S. and Costa Rica, Chuck Stark, Luther College class of 2006, will present, "Exploring the World and Finding our Place" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, in the Valders Hall of Science Room 206 on the Luther campus. The lecture is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Tiny house

Luther College hosts tiny house workshop April 25

After hosting a lecture by "The Big Tiny" author Dee Williams last September, the Luther College Center for Sustainable Communities will host a workshop for local tiny house owners and enthusiasts Saturday, April 25, in Room 206 of Valders Hall of Science on the Luther College campus. The workshop is open to the public with no charge for admission, but registration is requested.

The Winneshiek Energy District, Iowa Dairy Center, Northeast Iowa Community College and Luther Center for Sustainable Communities are teaming up to host a Farm Solar "How-To" Workshop at Iowa Dairy Center, South of the Northeast Iowa Community College campus in Calmar, Iowa, at 1 p.m. Friday, April 10.

The Past as Proxy for the Future: Dr. Peterson Explores Barcelona, Spain and the Pliocene Epoch

Mid-September saw Luther College’s very own Dr. Laura Peterson jet off to sunny Barcelona, Spain to meet with other paleoclimatologists from colleges and universities around the world. There wasn’t much time for paella and strolling the cobbled streets, however, as she and her colleagues had an important matter to discuss: climate conditions during the Pliocene period.

Luther's green roof

Luther's green roof continues to thrive

After nearly a year of growth, the green roof installed on Luther College's Sampson-Hoffland Laboratories is alive and kicking. Surviving through a harsh, record-breaking winter, the roof has already proved the hardiness of its plants and will continue to show its ecological and social advantages in the years to come.
