Off-Campus Teaching and Research

Since 1992 Lori Stanley has led or co-led 21 January Term programs abroad: 5 to Nepal, 1 to Guatemala, and 15 to Tanzania. From 2002-2006 she co-led 5 summer programs on the Navajo Nation in northeastern Arizona. Several students who participated in the programs in Arizona and Tanzania returned to those locations to conduct summer research supported by Luther College student/faculty collaborative research grants. Since 2010, 5 students have collaborated with Stanley and Maasai research partners on the Maasai Medicine Project, an effort to document traditional knowledge about medicinal plants used by Maasai of northern Tanzania.
