After the first day of the two day UW-Oshkosh Marty Petersen Invitational, Luther posted a record of 1-1. The Norse defeated Finlandia University 3-0 and were then defeated by host UW-Oshkosh 3-1.
Luther made quick work of Finlandia recording set victories of 25-8, 25-12 and 25-16. Sixteen different players saw action in this match. Paige Yontz led the attack with 12 kills. The Norse tallied an attack percentage of .358 and held Finlandia to .088. Sam Sixta had 33 assists and Hailey Becker recorded four ace serves.
In the nightcap, host UW-Oshkosh defeated Luther 25-8 in set one. The Norse bounced back and won set two 25-20, but lost the next two by finals of 25-12 and 25-19.
Luther posted an attack pecentage of .134 and was led by Yontz with 11 kills. Sixta dished out 24 assists and Greta Stauffacher led the defensive efforts with 11 digs.
Luther was defeated by St. Norbert College and UW-Superior in the final day of the UW-Oshkosh Invitational. The Norse lost to St. Norbert 3-0 and UW-Superior 3-2.
St. Norbert improved to 17-6 thanks to set victories of 25-15, 25-21 and 25-22. Grace Baumann led the Green Knights wiht a match high 15 kills. Luther was led by Paige Yontz with eight kills and Brooke Greenwood with seven.
The final match of the weekend went five sets. Luther won sets one and three by finals of 25-23, 25-22, and UW-Superior won sets two and four 25-15, 25-17. In the fifth and final set, Luther trailed 4-0, then went on a 10-4 run and held a 10-8 advantage. The Yellowjackets responded with a 7-3 run to secure the victory 15-13 and the match victory by a final of 3-2.
Luther is now 5-17 and will return to American Rivers Conference action on Wednesday, Oct. 16. The Norse will travel to Central College for a match that will begin at 7:30 p.m.
