Luther kept its American Rivers Conference Tournament play-off hopes alive by defeating Buena Vista University 3-1 tonight in the Regents Center. The top-six teams in the final regular league standings will qualify for the tournament.
Facing a must win situation, the Norse won the first two sets 25-23 and 25-20. Buena Vista responded with a 25-20 victory in set three. In the third in final set, the scored was tied six times down the stretch, before Luther won the final two points to secure the 28-26 victory.
Three Norse tallied double digit kill totals and all three posted single match career highs in the process. Paige Yontz led all attackers with 22 kills. Her previous high of 20 was set against Grinnell College earlier this year on Sept. 6. Sydnee Schreier and Rachael Luebbe finished with 14 and 10 respectively.
Buena Vista was led by Sydney McLaren with 16 kills, Kaitie Serkiz with 11 and Hannah Smith with 10.
The win gives Luther an A-R-C record of 2-4, 7-18 overall. Buena Vista fell to 3-3 in league play, 11-13 overall.
Luther will wrap up its regular season home schedule tomorrow afternoon. The Norse will host Nebraska Wesleyan University at 3:30 p.m.
