Luther won its second match in a row defeating UC-Santa Cruz this afternoon at the St. Catherine University Tournament. The Norse won 3-1 posting set victories of 25-21, 25-18 in sets one and two and 25-22 in set four. UC-Santa Cruz won set three 25-23.
Karissa Kime recorded a career high 19 kills for a four-set match to lead the Norse attack. Kime tallied an attack percentage of .298. Emma Veum also posted double-digit kill totals with 14. Anna Larson, who needed four kills to post her 1,000th career kill, was credited with eight.
Sam Sixta dished out 44 assists, five shy of her career best for a four-set match. Sixta also recorded a double-double as she was credited with 10 digs. Natalie Cote led the team in this category with 14, while Emily Rinken had 13. Katie Shabatura led the defensive effort at the net as she was credited with one block solo and four block assists.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 11-13. Santa Cruz fell to 6-16.
The Norse continue play tomorrow facing host St. Kate's at 11:00 a.m. and No. 11 Gustavus Adolphus at 3:00 p.m.
