Luther took another step towards qualifying for the six-team American Rivers Conference Tournament tonight. The Norse defeated the Dutch of Central College 3-0. Set scores were 25-20, 25-23 and 27-25. Tonight's sweep was the first for the Norse since defeating Lawrence University in three sets Sept. 8.
The Dutch made things interesting in the third and final set. Down 24-19, Central rattled off five consecutive points and tied the score 24-24. The teams traded points and then Luther secured the victory with the final two points of the evening.
Emma Veum and Karissa Kime led a Norse attack with 13 and 11 kills respectively. Veum produced an attack percentage of .344, while Kime's attack percentage was .308. Anna Larson was next with nine kills followed by Katie Shabatura with six. Sam Sixta dished out a match high 38 assists.
Natalie Cote reached a milestone tonight recording her 1,000th career dig. Cote entered the match needing 11 to achieve this mark and completed the match with 13.
The win give Luther an A-R-C record of 3-2, 10-13 overall. Central falls to 1-4 in league play, 10-11 overall.
Luther returns to action this weekend when it will compete in the St. Catherine University Tournament Oct. 12-13.
