Luther leveled its American Rivers Conference record to 2-2 thanks to a 3-2 road victory over Loras College tonight. The Norse jumped out to a 2-0 lead after winning the first two sets 25-21, 25-23. The Duhawks battled back and won sets three and four by finals of 26-24, 25-19.
In the fifth and deciding set, Luther jumped out to a 5-2 advantage and never lost control of the set, posting a 15-9 win that secured the match victory.
Three Norse tallied double digit kill totals. Anna Larson and Karissa Kime both had 13 kills, while Emma Veum was credited with 12. Brooke Greenwood was next with eight and Katie Shabatura had seven. Shabatura also dominated at the net, recording nine total blocks that included one solo. As a team, the Norse had 14 total blocks.
With her 12 kills tonight, Veum moved closer to joining the 1,000 career club. She enters next week with a career total of 996.
The Duhawks were led by Jenna La Corte who had a match high 23 kills, while posting an attack percentage of .319.
Luther is now in a three-way tie for third place in the A-R-C with four league matches remaining on the schedule. Loras fell to 0-2 in conference play. The top-six teams qualify for the A-R-C Tournament that will begin Oct. 30.
Luther's next action will be at the UW-Whitewater Tournament Oct. 5-6. The Norse will face UW-La Crosse at 5:00 p.m. and host No. 25 UW-Whitewater at 7:00 p.m. on the 5th. The next day they will play the University of St. Thomas at Noon and UW-Stevens Point at 2:00 p.m.
