Brittany Sisk recorded her first victory as Head Coach of the Luther volleyball program. Luther defeated Northland (WI) 3-0 in the first of four matches at the St. Mary's University (MN) Ground Round Sugar Loaf Classic. Set scores were 25-11, 25-18 and 25-21.
Karissa Kime and Emma Veum led a balanced attack producing a match high seven kills each. Katie Shabatura, who returned to the court for the first time after missing all of last season due to an injury, was next with six. Anna Larson with five and Paige Steward with four completed the top-five.
Luther's attack percentage was .157, while Northland's was .048.
The Norse will wrap up today's action with a 4:00 p.m. match against Dominican University.
Dominican (IL) 3, Luther 1
Luther dropped a 3-1 decision to Dominican University (IL) in today's second match of the St. Mary's University Ground Round Classic. Luther won set one 25-20 and then was defeated 25-16, 25-23 and 25-14 in sets two, three and four. The loss levels Luther's overall record to 1-1.
The Norse tallied an attack percentage of .073 thanks to 28 attack errors. Karissa Kime led the Norse attack with 14 kills and Emma Veum was next with 13. Sam Sixta once again led the team in assists with 20. Natalie Cote, Sixta and Anna Larson all tallied double digit dig totals with 16, 13 and 10 respectively.
Luther will play two matches tomorrow. The first against Edgewood College at Noon, followed by a match against St. Mary's at 2:00 p.m.

Luther improved to 2-1 thanks to a 3-1 victory over Edgewood College in today's first match of the Ground Round Sugarloaf Classic, hosted by St. Mary's University (MN).
The Norse won set one 25-17, dropped set two 16-25 and wrapped up the win with sets scores of 25-22 and 25-18 in sets three and four.
Emma Veum and Katie Shabatura led the Norse offense that posted an attack percentage of .233. Both players tallied 13 kills. Anna Larson was right behind the duo with 11.
Sam Sixta continued to climb up the career assist chart dishing out 27, while Grace Meyers was credited with 18. Sixta also led all players with four ace serves. Natalie Cote posted a match high 18 digs.
Luther will wrap up its first weekend of competition against host St. Mary's University at 2:00 p.m.
St. Mary's University 3, Luther 2
Luther wrapped up the Ground Round Sugarloaf Classic, dropping a hard fought 3-2 decision to host St. Mary's University. The Cardinals won set one 25-15. Luther responded with back-to-back set victories of 25-15, 25-22. St. Mary's leveled the match to 2-2, posting a 25-23 win in set four. In the fifth and final set, the Eagles defeated the Norse 15-12.
Karissa Kime, who was named to the all-tournament team, led the Norse offense with 17 kills. She had 34 attempts with only two errors, posting an attack percentage of .441.
Anna Larson also reached double digit kill totals with 13, while Emma Veum was one shy with nine.
Sam Sixta and Grace Meyers dished out 26 and 19 assists respectively. Natalie Cote recorded 24 digs, while Sixta was credited with 12.
Luther ends it's first weekend of action with an overall record of 2-2.
The Norse open up at home on Wednesday, Sept. 5, when they will host UW-La Crosse. Match time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
