Danielle Lynch Resigns as Volleyball Coach

Luther College Director of Athletics Renae Hartl has announced that Danielle Lynch, head volleyball coach, has resigned.

“This decision to step away from Luther was definitely difficult,” stated Lynch.  “I am forever grateful for the amazing opportunities that Luther and the Athletic department have given me and my family over the past seven years.”

“I would like to thank Joe Thompson and Renae Hartl for giving me my first head coaching position, the coaching and support staff for becoming my second family and most importantly my team (both past and present) for being my purpose everyday.”

Lynch, her husband Jeff, and their two daughters Nora (3) and Stella (1), will be moving to the Des Moines area, so that Jeff can help with his families business, AEC (Automation Equipment Corporation) based out of Johnston, Iowa. Jeff’s father passed away in October.

During her tenure, Lynch led the Norse program from an eighth place finish in the Iowa Conference her first year, to two consecutive second place finishes in 2016 and 2017. She was named Iowa Conference Coach of the Year in 2013 and 2016 and compiled an overall record of 116-97.

“I know this was an extremely difficult decision for Danielle and her family to relocate to invest their presence in the family business,” stated Hartl. “She will be missed greatly as our leader in the volleyball program, as a valued member of our athletic department and Luther College, and in the Decorah community. We wish her the best of luck and we thank her for creating a volleyball program that we are very proud of and that has contended for conference championships each of the last two seasons.”

A national search to replace Lynch will begin immediately.
