The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) has released the 2017 all-conference volleyball team. The all-conference team was selected by vote of the head coaches in the league.
Luther junior middle blocker Emma Veum (Eagan, Minn./Eastview) and sophomore setter Sam Sixta (Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk) were two of the 15 players named to the all-conference team. Junior outside hitter Anna Larson (Edina, Minn.) was named honorable mention all-conference.
Veum is making her third appearance on the all-conference team. Entering the Iowa Conference Tournament semfinals on Friday, Nov. 3, Veum leads the Norse with 268 kills in 95 sets played, for an average of 2.82 kills per set. She also leads the team with an attack percentage of .330 and 66 total blocks.
Since taking over the starting role at setter for the Norse two years ago, Sixta has quickly moved up Luther's all-time list for career assists. This year, Sixta has dished out 903 assists in 97 sets played, for an average of 9.31 per set. Combined with last year's total of 960 assists, Sixta is currently sixth on the all-time list with 1,863. Sixta also leads the team in ace serves with 37.
Larson ranks second on the team in total kills (265) and kills per set (2.76). She has also been credited with 269 digs, 22 ace serves and 27 total blocks.
Luther finished the Iowa Conference schedule with a record of 6-2, 16-9 overall and earned the No. 2 seed for the six-team Iowa Conference Tournament. This marks the second year in a row the Norse are the No. 2 seed of the tournament.
