Luther College is the American Rivers Conference champions after defeating Simpson College 9-0 today. The Norse victory gives them a league record of 8-0 and the No. 1 seed for the league's Automatic Qualifier that will take place in the spring. The Norse lost just three games in doubles and swept all six singles matches in straight sets.
Devon Bourget and Shelby Cook at No. 1 doubles, and Lexi Hastings and Kelsey Kruse at No. 2 doubles, completed the regular season conference schedule undefeated with identical records of 7-0. Bourget and Cook posted an (8-0) win at No. 1, while Hastings and Kruse were victorious at No. 2 (8-3). No. 3, Kylie Dunning and Emily Rubbelke posted an (8-0) victory.
In singles play, Bourget defeated Emily King (6-0, 6-4) at No. 1; Cook defeated Megan Grubb (6-2, 6-0) at No. 2; Kruse posted a (6-2, 6-1) win at No. 3; Anna Spencer defeated Samantha Goodger (6-0, 6-2) at No. 4; Aurora Schossow won (6-1, 6-1) over Allie Smith at No. 5; and Megan Grimm defeated Lorin Miller (6-2, 6-1) at No. 6.
Luther's conference title is its 28th in school history and first under the American Rivers Conference title. The Norse have now won league titles in three of the last four years.
Next weekend, Oct. 11-12, the A-R-C will meet at Byrnes Park Tennis Center, Waterloo, Iowa for the league's Individual Tournament.
