Shelby Cook Named American Rivers Co-Female Athlete of the Week

The American Rivers Conference has announced that Luther College women’s tennis player Shelby Cook (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) and women’s golfer Morgan Kranz (Sauk Centre, Minn./Sauk Centre) have been named American Rivers Co-Female Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, September 20, 2020.

Cook helped guide the Norse to three wins this week as they kicked-off the 2020 campaign. The Norse defeated Loras College 7-2, the University of Dubuque 9-0 and Nebraska Wesleyan University 9-0.

During singles play, Cook swept Loras’ Mariana Bayona-Paez (6-0, 6-0) at No. 2, and then defeated Brooke Sailer of Nebraska Wesleyan University at No. (7-5, 6-2).

Playing with double partner Devon Bourget (Sr. Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial), the duo defeated Loras’ Audrey Hinz and Maddie Smith (8-1) and Dubuque’s Alyssa Stevenson and Lauren Colon (8-2).

Cook is earning her fourth career Player of the Week accolade (4/8/19, 9/10/19, 9/23/19, 9/21/20) and is the first Norse to win the award for the 2020-21 season.
