The American Rivers Conference has announced that Luther College senior Kelsey Kruse (Decorah, Iowa) has been named the league's women's tennis player of the week for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019. This is the second time Kruse has been so honored.
Kruse helpled Luther to victories over Central College (8-1) and Simpson College (9-0) that resulted in Luther capturing the American Rivers Conference championship. The Norse finished the league schedule with a record of 8-0.
She capped off the championship week with a 2-0 record in singles and doubles. At No. 3 singles, Kruse defeated Kennedi Wright of Simpson (6-2, 6-1) and Brownwyn Metcalf of Central (6-1, 6-3).
In doubles she played with freshman Lexi Hastings (Menomonie, Wis.) and the duo defeated Megan Grubb/Lorin Miller of Simpson (8-3) and Lauryn Mize/Karleigh Schilling of Central (8-7). The two victories gave them a perfect 7-0 record in conference play.
