The American Rivers Conference has announced that Luther College sophomore Devon Bourget (Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) has been named the league's women's tennis player of the week for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018.
This past weekend at the ITA Midwest Regional Tennis Tournament hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College (MN), Bourget went 3-2 in singles and 1-1 in doubles.
On the championship side of the singles bracket she defeated Alisha Wiedneier of St. Kate's (7-6(4), 6-4) and Ashley Rottinghaus of Wartburg (6-4, 6-1). She was eliminated from the tournament by Grinnell College's No. 1 player Abigail Nielsen (6-1, 6-2).
With the victory over Rottinghaus, Bourget is now 5-0 versus American Rivers Conference No. 1 players this season.
In doubles, Bourget and partner Kelsey Kruse (Decorah, Iowa) defeated Sydney Verbauwhede and Alyssa Carew of Edgewood (9-8(2)) and then were defeated by UW-Whitewater duo Gabi Kitchell and Julye Martin (8-0).
This is the first Player of the Week accolade for Bourget.
