The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) has announced that Luther senior Jackie Cychosz has been named the league's women's tennis Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 8.
Cychosz, who plays No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Norse, helped lead Luther to its second consecutive Iowa Conference championship. The Norse defeated Simpson College (6-0) and Central College (8-1) at the H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse on the campus of Central College on Saturday, Oct. 7. These were the final two matches on the IIAC dual meet schedule for the Norse, who finished with a league record of 8-0.
Playing with doubles partner Claire Christian, the duo posted wins over Kayla Reusche and Cassidy Bierbrodt of Simpson (8-2), and Central's Kari Grindberg and Karleigh Schilling (8-3). Cychosz and Christian completed the league schedule a perfect 6-0.
Cychosz also had one win in singles on the weekend, a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Ashley Maley of Central, that clinced the match for the Norse.
Luther's conference title is a league leading 27th. It is also the first time since 2009-10 that Luther has claimed back-to-back titles. Luther holds the Iowa Conference record for consecutive championships of 19 in a row dating from 1982-2000.
