The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) has announced that Luther College sophomore Kelsey Kruse has been named the women's tennis player of the week for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017.
Kruse posted a record of 2-0 in both singles and doubles this past week and helped Luther defeat University of Dubuque and Coe College by identical scores of 6-3. The two wins gives Luther an Iowa Conference record of 4-0, 4-1 overall.
In the Dubuque match, Kruse defeated Miranda Paddock at No. 6 singles (6-1, 6-1). Playing No. 3 doubles with freshman Devon Bourget, the Norse duo defeated A. Palacios-Quinonez and Hailey Wang (8-4).
Sunday afternoon, Kruse and Borget defeated the Coe duo of Stephanie Bush and Ella White at No. 3 (8-1), to help the Norse take a 3-0 lead in the match. With three singles matches concluded, Luther held a 4-2 advantage, when Kruse secured the team victory defeating White (6-0, 7-6 (7-3)) at No. 6.
