Five Women Tennis Players Earn ITA Scholar Athlete Recognition

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has announced its team and individual academic awards for the 2016-17 school year.

For the 16th year in a row, Luther was recognized as an ITA All-Academic team and five student-athletes earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: be a varsity letter winner; have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the 2015-16 academic year; and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).

The five student-athletes named ITA Scholar Athletes were Madisen Crow '17, Lauren Welch '17, Claire Christian '18, Jackie Cychosz '18 and Emilyn Ryski '18.

During the 2016-17 campaign, the Norse captured the Iowa Conference Championship, their first since 2010 and league best 26th. Luther finished its dual meet schedule with a record of 15-12, 8-0 in the Iowa Conference. Luther is coached by Adam Strand who just completed his sixth season and has posted a dual meet record of 94-57.
