The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced that Luther junior Megan Broadbent has been named the women's swimming and diving performer of the week for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 30. Two days later, the Liberal Arts Championships (LAC) also announced the Broadbent was named the LAC Performer of the Week.
The LAC is comprised of the 11 schools that compete at the Liberal Arts Championships, the final NCAA III National Swimming Championships qualifying meet of the year. This year's LAC will be hosted by Principia College, Elsah, Ill., Feb. 8-11. The 11 schools include Illinois Tech, Eureka College (IL), Morningside College (IA), Principia, Franklin College (IN), Mills College (CA), University of Minnesota-Morris, Coe College, Loras College, Luther College, Nebraska Wesleyan University and Simpson College.
Broadbent started the weekend posting a first place finish in the three-meter diving competition at the UW-Eau Claire dual. Broadbent tallied 248.10 points and won the event by 27 points. She also placed second in one-meter diving by three points with a point total of 256.40. This point total is also a Regional Qualifying score for the first time in this event.
The next afternoon during Luther's first home dual of the year against University of St. Thomas, Broadbent won both the one-meter and three-meter competitions with point totals of 223.40 and 227.90 respectively. She won the one-meter competition by 12 points and the three-meter by 14 points.
Last year, Broadbent qualified for the NCAA III Region 2 diving competition for the first time of her career.
