Luther's 24-game win streak came to an end this afternoon as the Norse split with UW-Stevens Point 6-8, 8-3.
In game one, No. 5 Luther trailed 8-0 entering the bottom of the fifth inning before exploding for four runs. The Norse loaded the bases in the seventh but could manage only two runs en route to the 8-6 UW-Stevens Point victory. Prior to the fifth frame Luther tallied just two hits of off Pointer starting pitcher Miranda Morrison and finished with 10.
Ashley Burrows was 3-for-3, while Lindsey Uphoff was 2-for-3 and Hiliary Pennington was 2-for-4. Carli Radil drove in three runs, two in the fifth and one in the seventh.
Amanda Witzlib started in the circle and allowed six earned runs on 10 hits, walked one and struck out six. Annie Versnik pitched the final three frames and did not allow a run on four hits and struck out two.
In the nightcap, Luther jumped on Stevens Point early scoring two runs in the first and five in the second. The Norse added a run in the fourth en route to the 8-3 victory.
Radil hit a grand slam home run to center field in the second and also drove in a run in first on a sacrifice fly to deep center field. Pennington went 3-for-3 and scored twice, while Alise Miller and Burrows also produced multiple hit games.
Topanga Skiles (8-0) was credited with the win. Skiles pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowed three runs on 10 hits, walked four and struck out three.
The split gives Luther an overall record of 25-1. Stevens Point is now 8-15.
Luther returns to Iowa Conference action this Wednesday, April 8 when it will host Wartburg College at 3:00 p.m.
