Saturday, March 7
Game One: Luther defeated Augustana (IL) 9-1 in six innings in today's first game at the Rochester Regional Dome. The victory gives Luther an overall record of 5-0.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the third, the Norse responded with two runs in the bottom half of the third, fifth and sixth frames, and tacked on three runs in the fourth.
Kendra Cooper (4-0) went the distance in the circle. Cooper allowed one run on five hits, walked one and struckout four.
Game Two: It took two extra innings of tie-breaker fastpitch softball before Luther was able to post its sixth win of the year against no losses. When it was all done, Luther defeated Gustavus Adolphus 8-3 in nine innings.
All dome games are decided by the tie-breaker rule throughout the weekend. This means that each team starts with a runner on second base to start the inning with no outs.
In the eighth, both the Gusties and Norse scored a run. In the ninth, Luther exploded for six runs on four hits and Gustavus managed to score once.
Kendra Cooper picked up the win in relief, pitching the final four innings.
Abbey Gapinski got the start and allowed one unearned run on four hits, walked two and stuck out four.
Sunday, March 8
Game One: Luther started day two at the Rochester Regional Dome with an 11-1 victory over Lawrence University. The victory gives Luther an overall record of 7-0, while Lawrence fell to 1-3.
Luther held a 4-1 lead heading into the top of the seventh and then exploded for seven runs. The Norse tallied 17 hits with nine different players reaching base safely. Annie See led the attack with a 4-for-5 effort batting in the third slot of the order. Hannah Halverson and Morgan Hogenson both had two three hits and designated player Emily Versnik had two.
Kendra Cooper pitched the first five innings and allowed one earned run on five hits, walked two and struck out five.
Courtney Cooper finished the game and faced six batters and struck out two.
Game Two: Luther wrapped up its annual trip to the Rochester Regional Dome with an 8-0 victory over Ripon College in five innings. The Norse scored in every frame except the fourth.
Annie See drove in three runs, while Paige Timmermann, Kyal Heydt, Morgan Hogenson and Maleah Georgen all drove in one.
Abbey Gapinksi picked up her second win of the year. Gapinksi held Ripon to one hit and struck out six in three innings of work.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 8-0.
Luther will be off until its annual trip to the PFX Spring Games held in Clermont, Florida. The Norse will be in Florida March 19-27 and will play 10 games.
