Luther wrapped up its regular season schedule with a sweep of UW-River Falls in River Falls, Wis. The Norse won game one 11-2 and then won the nightcap 8-0. Both games were decided in five innings.
In game one, Samantha Bratland became Luther's all-time leader for career wins in the circle. Bratland threw four innings, allowed two runs on four hits and walked three. She improved her season record to 18-5 and her career record is now 88-17. She passed Becca Girvan, who played for the Norse from 2001-14 and posted a career win-loss record of 87-21.
Luther tallied its 11 runs on 10 hits, scoring three times in the first frame, twice in the third and six times in the sixth.
Sierra Freeland led the offensive attack hitting a three-run home run in the sixth. Addy Pender, who was 2-for-2 and Hannah Halverson who was 3-for-3, both drove in two runs.
In the nightcap, the Norse scored three times in the first inning and added five in the fourth to secure the sweep. Abby Gehringer provided the majority of the runs, hitting a grand slam home run in the fourth. Her dinger was her team best seventh of the year.
Kendra Cooper (4-0) went the distance in the circle. Cooper allowed just two hits, walked one and struck out two.
The sweep gives Luther an overall record of 30-9. UW-River Falls fell to 8-26.
Luther's next action will be the first round of the single elimination American Rivers Conference Tournament that will take place in Pella, Iowa May 3-4. Luther, the No. 4 seed, will face the No. 5 seed University of Dubuque on Friday, May 3 at 4:00 p.m.
