Luther advanced to the championship game of the NCAA III Softball Decorah, Iowa Regional, after defeating Cornell College 6-0 this morning. The Norse tallied 10 hits and scored once in the third, twice in the fourth and three times in the seventh.
Samantha Bratland threw a two-hit shut out en route to her 23rd win of the year against four losses. Bratland faced 25 batters, did not issue a walk and struck out 10.
Four of Luther's six runs came from home runs. Ashley Burrows hit a solo shot to left field in the third, her third of the year, all coming in the post season. Addy Pender hit a three-run home run in the seventh. Pender's home run ties her with Natalie Stockman for the team lead in this category with four.
Burrows, Pender, Blake Banowetz and Bailey Hocker all had two hits.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 37-8. The Norse will face Saint Benedict (36-9) in the championship game tomorrow, Sunday, May 13 at Noon. Saint Benedict defeated Lake Forest 7-0 and Cornell College 6-1 in the elimination bracket to advance to Sunday. Luther needs one win to advance to the NCAA III Super Regional round next weekend.
