No. 25 St. Catherine University defeated No. 3 Luther twice this afternoon and will advance to the NCAA III Super Regional round next weekend. St. Kate's who lost their first game of the Decorah, Iowa Regional 1-0 to University of Chicago, won four consecutive games en route to the regional title.
In the first championship game this afternoon, the Wildcats Krista Flugstad, who was named Co-Most Outstanding Player of the regional, allowed one run on seven hits and held the Norse bats in check. At one point she retired 12 Norse batters in a row. She also drove in what proved to be the game winner with an RBI double in the sixth.
Luther's lone run came in the bottom of the seventh when Sammie Harris hit and RBI double that drove in Blake Banowetz who led-off the inning with a double.
In the second championship game, Luther was trailing 4-1 heading into its last at-bat in the top of the seventh. The Norse scored four runs on five hits and held a 5-4 lead and were three outs away from claiming the regional title. St. Catherine's answered with two runs in the bottom half of the frame to secure the come-from-behind victory.
Luther ends its season with an overall record of 41-5.
