No. 4 Luther improved to 5-1 in the Iowa Conference after sweeping Loras College 6-0, 8-1 this afternoon in Dubuque. The two wins also gave Head Coach Renae Hartl her 500th career victory.
In game one, the Norse produced 10 hits and scored three runs in the first, one in the fourth and two in the fifth. Lead-off batter Ashley Burrows led the attack going 3-for-4. Blake Banowetz and Sammie Harris were both 2-for-3. Banowetz drove in two runs, both in the first frame.
Samantha Bratland (13-2) went the distance in the circle and tossed a seven hit shutout.
In the nightcap, Luther exploded for 14 hits and scored two runs in first, third and seventh innings and one in the second and fifth frames.
Anna Strien continued to swing a hot bat. Strien was 4-for-5 and drove in three runs. Harris went 3-for-4 that included a solo home run in the seventh. Natalie Stockman also had a multiple hit game going 2-for-5 with one RBI. Addy Pender also hit a home run in the second, her fourth of the year.
Annie Versnik (14-1) picked up the win. Versnik allowed three hits and struck out two in six innings of work. Amanda Witzlib threw the final frame and allowed one run on two hits, walked one and struck out two.
Luther is now 27-3. The Norse will return to action this Saturday when they will host University of Dubuque. First pitch for this league double header will take place at 1:00 p.m.
