Five members of the 2019 Luther College softball team have been named Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar Athletes.
To achieve this honor, a student-athlete must have obtained a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or above on a 4.0 scale, at the conclusion of the 2018-19 academic year.
The 2019 NFCA Scholar Athletes and the class they were in during the 2019 season are seniors Blake Banowetz (Bellevue, Iowa/Marquette Catholic) and Addy Pender (Johnston, Iowa); junior Paige Timmerman (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy); sophomore Courtney Cooper (Lansing, Iowa/Kee); and freshman Megan Elford (Fond du Lac, Wis.).
During the 2019 campaign, the Norse finished with an overall record of 30-10. Luther is coached by Renae Hartl who has tallied a record of 587-192 in 18 seasons. She has led the Norse to six conference titles, 11 national tournament appearances, two super regional appearances and five trips to the national championships, finishing third in 2018.
