The 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District®Softball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has been released to recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America® honorees will announced in June.
Luther senior Blake Banowetz (Bellevue, Iowa/Marquette Catholic), was one of 14 athletes selected Academic All-District® from District 8. District 8 is comprised of 20 states (Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wyoming) and Canada.
Luther finished the 2019 campaign with an overall record of 30-10. Banowetz started all 40 games for the Norse at third base. She batted .366 with 35 rbi and posted a slugging percentage of .553 thanks to 12 doubles, one triple and three home runs. Defensively, she was credited with 27 putouts, 73 assists and 5 errors for a fielding percentage of .952.
During her four-year career, Luther posted an overall record of 154-24. She posted a batting average of .327 while driving in 91 runs. Banowetz tallied 33 doubles that ranks tied for 10th all-time and 232 defensive assists that ranks sixth all-time.
