The 2018 Division III Google Cloud Academic All-America® Softball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), has announced the first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees. There were 11 student-athletes selected for each team.
Luther senior Anna Strien has been named to the second team, the second time in as many years she has been so honored. With this honor, Strien becomes the 70th Luther student-athlete to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-America® dating back to 1980.
The Division III Google Cloud Academic All-America® program is financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 Division III Academic All-America® teams.
Twenty-five of the 33 members of the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III softball teams have a 3.90 or better GPA, with 11 achieving a perfect 4.00 GPA.
Strien, a shortstop, helped lead nationally ranked No. 3 Luther to a third place finish at the NCAA III National Softball Championship, the highest finish at the national finale in school history. The Norse set a school record for wins posting a mark of 43-11. Prior to this honor, she was named all-Iowa Conference for a fourth time; all-Region for a third time; and a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) first-team All-American for a second consecutive year.
Academically, she is a three-time NFCA Scholar All-American and a three-time Iowa Conference Spring Sports All-Academic Team honoree. She is also a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma – Excellence in Athletics & Academics honor society.
Strien is a Political Science major who has accumulated a grade point average of 3.72.
