The NCAA Division III Softball Committee has announced the 62 teams that will compete in the Division III National Softball Championship.
The regional rounds will be held May 10-13. Four teams will compete at 14 regional sites and three teams will compete at two regional sites. The team advancing from each regional will compete in the super regional round May 18-19. The finals will be held May 24-29, at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. All rounds will use a double-elimination format.
Luther College (35-8) will host what will be called the Decorah, Iowa Regional and will be the No. 2 seed. Traveling to Decorah will be the No. 1 seed College of St. Benedict, St. Joseph, Minn. (34-8); No. 3 seed Lake Forest College, Lake Forest, Ill. (29-11); and Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa (26-19).
St. Benedict’s is a member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC); Cornell College and Lake Forest are members of the Midwest Conference and Luther is a member of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC).
Luther is making its 19th appearance in the national tournament, its tenth consecutive and 11th in the last 12 years.
The Norse are coached by Renae Hartl who has compiled a career record of 549-177 and is in the midst of her 17th season. This year, she led Luther to an Iowa Conference regular season record of 10-6 and a third consecutive Iowa Conference Tournament championship. The tournament title is the seventh for the Norse in the past nine years.
